Welcome to tigers Taekwondo academy

Tigers Taekwondo Academy is a young and fast growing organisation dedicated to providing top class Taekwondo training. The style of our Taekwondo training is mix of traditional and modern techniques, which has shown positive results. Taekwondo is a martial art and combat sport from Korea. It is the national sport of South Korea and sparring (kyeorugi) was introduced as an Olympic sporting event. Tae means to smash with the feet; kwon means to strike or smash with the hand; and do means way or method. Hence, Taekwondo is translated as the way of the foot and hand. Taekwondo is written differently by different organisations (also, Tae Kwon Do, Taekwon-Do, or Tae Kwon-Do). Taekwondo's popularity has resulted in the divergent evolution of the martial art. Taekwondo is a complete discipline martial art, that has a combination of combat techniques, self-defence, sport, exercise, entertainment, stretching and philosophy. Taekwondo has strong principles that each practitioner must adhere to. Tigers Taekwondo Academy are a strong organisation within and have clubs in the Chelsea, Fulham and Greenwich. A wide variety of instructors with a wealth of experience, share their knowledge with each other and their students. As part of sport Taekwondo, Tigers Taekwondo have produced many students who are competing at all levels in National and International Taekwondo Competitions representing Britain. Within Tigers Taekwondo there is a belief that everyone should continue to perfect their Taekwondo training methods in order to improve their own ability as well as teaching their students the best Traditional and Sport Taekwondo. Taekwondo in general emphasises on kicks thrown from a mobile stance, using the leg's greater reach and power to strike an opponent from a larger distance rather than punching or other techniques. In sparring, turning, back, front, reverse turning and side kicks are often used, as well as punching and advanced kicking, which may involve jumping, spinning or sliding. Traditional Taekwondo training often involves a system of blocks, punches, knife hand strikes. For the more advanced student there are also take downs or sweeps, throws, and joint locks. As well as all these technique's students would learn about pressure points and knife attack defence. Courses are often setup in the North East and London regions. This is aimed to help students actively take part in a particular area of interest, such as knife attack, pressure point attacks, fighting techniques, kicking techniques, competition style fighting, refereeing, instructor course, etc. This site's primary purpose is to provide up to date information of Taekwondo training sessions and meetings in the near future. Enjoy your visit
